West Virginia Department of Catholic Schools

The Bishop’s Cross will be presented to those who, through their lives and works, have demonstrated their commitment to the mission which underlies and motivates the work in the Catholic schools of West Virginia. Through their actions, these individuals have become partners with the Bishop in owning the vision of the educational ministry of the Diocese. The Bishop presents, to these recipients, this symbol of the pectoral cross, binding those receiving the Bishop’s Cross to his role and responsibility as teacher.

Anyone can nominate someone for the Bishop's Cross. Follow the link at the bottom of this page to find required forms and guidelines.

Required Forms are:

• Nomination Form
• Nominator Letter of Support
• Principal Letter of Support
• Pastor Letter of Support
• Letter of Support from one other person only if Pastor or Principal is the nominee.

Deadline for nominations is October 8, 2010. They can be submitted in one of three ways.

Recipients will be honored at the Bishop's Dinner for Catholic Schools to be held on Sunday, March 27, 2011 in Morgantown. Reservations are required and are $45 each.
