Alisandra Welch, a student at Madonna High School in Weirton, received second prize at the national level in the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Education Contest. With her, from left, are Marge Trinone, regent, and Eleanor Davis, vice regent, of Court Bishop McDonell No. 1865; and John Mihalyo, principal of Madonna High School. Welch’s award was in the Computer Art Category, Third Division. The annual contest is open to students in grades four through 12 in six categories—essay, poetry, art, computer art, music and photography. Awards are distributed at the local, state and national levels. Davis and Trinone will be distributing entry packets for the 2012 contest to Weirton-area Catholic schools.
